Mind, Body, and Spirit

A distinctive community of scholars, researchers, practitioners, and advocates, Maryland University of Integrative Health promotes whole person, relationship-centered healthcare.

Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) is the leading academic institution for integrative health in the nation. For nearly 40 years, MUIH has educated practitioners in health and wellness by integrating healing traditions and contemporary science, acknowledging the wisdom of the body and nature as a teacher, and focusing on the interconnection of mind, body, and spirit.

MUIH is an accredited graduate university, one of just a few in the country completely dedicated to integrative health. In the on-campus Natural Care Center and community outreach settings, MUIH provides compassionate and affordable healthcare from student interns and professional practitioners and delivers more than 35,000 clinical treatments and consultations each year.

Through discovery and exploration, MUIH delivers progressive educational programs, advances innovative clinical models, builds mutually beneficial partnerships, and provides opportunities for fulfilling careers.

Student Life at MUIH

Maryland University of Integrative Health's 12-acre campus in Laurel, Maryland, houses the MUIH Graduate School, Sherman Cohn Library, Meeting Point Bookstore and Cafe, Himmelfarb Gallery, Herb Garden, Herbal Dispensary, and Natural Care Center.

The campus is encompassed by thousands of acres of preserved natural woodlands that surround the Middle Patuxent River and lead to the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area--positioning students in the midst of Maryland's natural beauty and in the heart of one of the greatest concentrations of health-related corporations, regulatory agencies, academic institutions, and research laboratories in the world.

MUIH offers flexible schedules and formats for several of their academic programs, meeting the needs of today's busy and diverse student body. Many of the programs can be completed in as few as two years or as many as five. Evening and weekend courses are available, and many programs may be completed on-campus, fully-online or through a combination of in-person and online courses (hybrid format).

University Teaching Clinic

The Natural Care Center at MUIH houses the University's Teaching Clinic, offering students the opportunity to gain critical, hands-on experience in a clinical setting. Utilizing a team care model, student interns learn how to deliver highly effective and compassionate health services under the supervision of faculty supervisors who are experienced and licensed or certified professionals.

Academic Programs in Nutrition & Integrative Health

Nutrition is one of the most influential determinants for long-term health and wellness, and recent research shows that most chronic diseases can be prevented, and in some cases reversed, with good nutrition. Record numbers of consumers and businesses are aware of these facts and are seeking health professionals that can offer a strong knowledge base in the field of nutrition.

In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that "Employment of dietitians and nutritionists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. The role of food in preventing and treating diseases, such as diabetes, is now well known. More dietitians and nutritionists will be needed to provide care for patients with various medical conditions and to advise people who want to improve their overall health."

The Nutrition and Integrative Health programs at MUIH will prepare students with the advanced skills and expertise to fill this growing demand and become a leader in the field. Their programs include a Master of Science degree, a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition, and a Post-Master's Certificate. Learn more about MUIH's academic nutrition programs at
